The late Steve Jobs shared in his commencement speech to Stanford University graduates in 2005 three stories. The last story was of knowing that we must love what we do for a living. He learned early on that one should live each day as if it were his last. He shared the discovery of his pancreatic cancer and how that drove the point home. He shared how we should know our time is limited and so we should live our lives in ways that make a difference. He also shared how a publication from the 1970s blessed his life, The Whole Earth Catalog, which in pre-desktop publishing days, was put together with typewriters, tape, and Polaroid cameras. The catalog did not last long and in its final issue on the very back page was a photo of an early morning country road, with the words, "Stay hungry. Stay foolish." Those words drove Mr. Jobs to do incredible things. In the same way, as pastors sharing the Gospel of the Most High, we should never be full, content, nor comfortable with what we have done. We have to stay hungry, and we should encourage our churches to stay hungry; and in our attempts to fill the church we should not rule out doing "foolish" things that might irritate some folks.
Stay hungry.
Stay foolish.
We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are wise in Christ.-1 Cor. 4:10
